A Note on the term Giclée

In the art and gallery world, the term "giclée" has long been used to describe high-quality digital inkjet prints, originally meant to distinguish fine art prints from standard inkjet reproductions. Derived from the French word meaning "to spray," it signified prints created with advanced inkjet technology, archival inks, and premium papers.

However, over time, the term "giclée" has become somewhat ambiguous and misunderstood. To enhance clarity and transparency for collectors and art enthusiasts, the preferred terminology has shifted towards "archival pigment print" or "fine art archival pigment print." These terms clearly communicate the archival nature of the print and the use of pigment-based inks, which offer exceptional longevity, color fidelity, and quality.

Thus, while honoring the historical significance of "giclée," we now use the more precise and descriptive term "archival pigment print," typically specifying materials such as cotton rag paper, to accurately reflect the quality and artistic intent of our fine art prints.
